If you haven't got your head in the sand, you can't help but notice how much the developed world is talking about mental health. Whether it be discussions on the rates of mental ill health or the latest 'thing to do' to cope with the anxieties and challenges in an ever-changing world. Rapid changes in the world are impacting our collective mental health, and as a leader, you need to get ahead of the curve if you don't want to leave performance on the table. But to not leave performance on the table you have to get under the skin of how your mental health is connected to the way you lead, your team's mental health AND the performance of the business. Real Estate Agents shout 'Location, Location, Location', this book shouts 'Connection, Connection, Connection.' This book is about understanding the science behind why connection matters and the practical strategies to build your own mental health, the mental health of the team and the strength of connection that delivers results. This book is written by a senior manager for senior managers. It pushes away the jargon and 'fluff' to give you insights into why you can't afford to ignore the tsunami hitting the developed world. Your own health, your business performance and your future leadership impact depend upon it.
I've taken so many notes and I can see myself referring to it for a long time to come. So many useful tips and some great actionable strategies like the SBI model for giving feedback. The focus on wellbeing and connection was central to everything which is even more applicable during the current pandemic where so many employees are working from home and missing the everyday interactions and water cooler moments with colleagues. The idea that we all are the CEO's of our own board and that we must surround ourselves with a diverse group of board experts was a great analogy for holistic wellbeing.
A great read for any team leader, manager, director, principal and I'd also highly recommend it to H.R./Culture professionals too.
This is the book I have been waiting for - we all need additional assistance in managing our own wellbeing and supporting the wellbeing of those around us - 2020 has enabled more, and better conversations about mental health - Mentally at Work will help us keep those conversations going. Thanks so much Gen, for your honesty, wisdom, pragmatic and immediately implementable approach. All people leaders will benefit from this book.
Written by a woman who is the worst leader and a perpetrator of bullying in the workplace. This book is an insult. Research this author people, she is a fraud.
Such an important book, particularly in the current climate. Helpful, practical steps to implement. I will be coming back to this book again and again. A must read for all managers and leaders.
